Natural disasters are occurring more frequently than any other time in recorded history
The number of billion dollar disasters has increased from an average of 3 in the 1980s to an average of 18 from 2017 to 2021
The most common and costly disasters include severe storms, tropical cyclones, floods, droughts, and wildfires
Since 1980, there have been 332 billion dollar disasters
Weather and climate disasters in the United States are becoming more frequent and costly due to increased exposure, heightened vulnerability, and climate change intensifying certain extreme events.
Goal
How can furniture be designed to provide immediate aid to disaster stricken areas that is also sturdy, temporary, and fully recyclable?
Solution
CroCor is a furniture set of chairs, side tables, and larger tables, all made from corrugated cardboard. The furniture is designed to be sturdy, temporary, and fully recyclable. It can be assembled quickly (under a minute for each piece) without any hardware or tools, ideal for deployment in disaster-stricken areas.
